Number 36 – National Theatre

Despite seeing a lot of theatre during my time in London, I had never quite made it the National Theatre so with the clock ticking down on my time in London it was time to tick off Number 36.

When looking for tickets I was happy to see that Treasure Island was playing. It was a favourite book of mine from when I was younger and I am a bit fan of The Muppets version so I was looking forward to seeing it. I opted for the £15 tickets thinking even if I’m in the nosebleeds I knew the story so it wouldn’t be so bad. Once I got there though I was surprised to find that I was sitting in the very front row. Yes ok, so I was at the very side of the stage, but it was rounded so I think I had a pretty good view despite occasionally looking at the back of the actors heads.

Gordon’s Wine Bar

Drinking Establishment: Gordon’s Wine Bar

Location: 47 Villiers Street, London, WC2N 6NE

Cost: £5 for a glass of house red (but you could spend your whole paycheck in here)

Most people in London have been to Gordon’s Wine Bar (or at least it seems that everyone I know has been there) so its quite surprising that its taken me nearly four and a half years to finally go. I’ve got to say – its worth the wait and I can see why everyone loves London’s oldest wine bar.

Number 21 – Whitechapel Gallery

Its been awhile since I have done anything on the Top 100 list but don’t be surprised if you see a few posts coming up in the next few days with me plowing my way through the final few. Why? Well because I’m sad to say I am moving back home to Oz and I’ve only got a few weeks left in London. Sad days I know but even more reason to explore as much of this city as I can!

My most recent trip was to number 21 the Whitechapel Gallery. Located, in you guessed it -Whitechapel, I actually decided to tick this one off the list in style and do it as part of ‘First Thursdays‘. On the first thursday of every month, 130 galleries host a free late night where you can wander around East London and see as much art as you can. First stop however should be the Whitechapel Gallery so you can pick up a map or join the walking tour.

DF/Mexico

Delicious Eats: DF Mexico

Location: Old Truman Brewery, Hanbury Street, E1 6QR

Cost: £17 for starter, main and margarita

I love Mexican food, so its actually surprising I don’t eat out at Mexican places more often but that just means when I do, I’m totally excited and therefore order way too much. After deciding to head to DF Mexico I made the mistake of looking at the menu online and after seeing pictures of their delicious looking food – it felt like torture when I couldn’t order the whole menu.

Ukulele Wednesdays

I’ve recently taken up the ukulele and I’ve had some good fun learning how to play from YouTube videos and singing to myself in my lounge.  When my friend recommended Ukulele Wednesdays I couldn’t miss the chance to hang with other ukulele players. Ukulele Wednesdays is a free uke jam in three different pubs in London that is open to all levels of players –  The Royal George in Soho, The Albany in Marylebone and The Castle in Walthamstow.

Hanging Ten in Hawaii

I’ve always been really lucky that my parents are happy to travel and are often keen to meet me halfway. So when I was due to head to the USA for a work trip, my parents said they would meet me there for a week long holiday. We tossed up a few destinations before settling on Hawaii, more specifically Oahu. It wasn’t really halfway – I had to travel 22 hours from London with a stopover in LA and they had a direct flight from Brisbane, but it was worth the schlep out there for some sunshine and family time. Although we didn’t really do any ‘hanging ten’ being the uncoordinated non-surfers we are.

Scouser for the Weekend

A weekend in Liverpool might not sound like the most glamorous weekend getaway but it was one I had wanted to do all the same. I love exploring other UK cities and I hadn’t been up North in awhile. James took a little bit of convincing to come with me but with cheap train fares and promise of some Beatles history he caved in and came along.

Cat Cafe

Like many Londoners, my lifestyle isn’t conducive to owning a pet. My flat is too small for a cat, I’m never home enough for a dog and our landlords firm words in our lease probably rule out all forms of pets – except bar a goldfish. But with a place like Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium open in London the problem is (slightly) solved – there is a place to hang out withs some furry friends. I’m a dog person usually but a chance to get a bit of love from a pet made this one a must do.
