Top 10 Coffee Places In London

I love my coffee and I have slowly been working my way through the London Coffee Guide as well as popping into a few places I’ve heard about on the grapevine. Please note this list might also read “Top 10 places to get brunch” as most of them do amazing food too!

  1. Brew

An Antipodean cafe that started in Clapham and has now expanded to four branches across SW London. Working at Brew was actually one of my first jobs when I arrived in London. The coffee is good and they do a flat white brilliantly, but their food menu is also divine. Their sweet corn fritters are amazing!

Timberyard

Coffee Date: Timberyard

Address: 7 Upper St Martin’s Lane, Seven Dials, WC2H 9DL

Cost: £5.50 for a soy flat white and cookie.

Every fortnight me and a friend from work and go out for coffee and slowly and surely we’ve been working our way around to coffee places in the Soho/Covent Garden area near our work. After about a year we were starting to run out of new places to visit but thankfully Timberyard opened up on St Martins Lane and we got to try somewhere new!

Artisan Coffee

Coffee Date: Artisan Coffee

Address: 203 Upper Richmond Road, Putney SW15 6SG

Cost: £5 for a coffee and muffin

On a hot summers day its hard to get excited about sitting inside drinking a hot coffee but thankfully this coffee date was in a perfect place for a sunny day. Artisan has big wide open windows, outdoor seats and high ceilings so we didn’t feel too hot and cramped. Opting for an iced latte meant it was a nice cool drink although the blend probably best served hot as it was quite strong and bitter.

Mel’s Vintage Beats and Breakfast

Coffee Date: Mel’s Cafe Bar

Address: 573 Garrat Lane, Earlsfield, Sw18 4ST

Cost: £15 for coffee and brunch

Mel’s Cafe could be put into all three of my categories as it does coffee, has an extensive menu and if that isn’t enough – a cocktail list a mile long. However since we visited it on a sunny Saturday for brunch the coffee category is only fitting. I had been wanting to visit Mel’s for ages after a recommendations from friends so I was happy to finally be checking it out!

The Ultimate Coffee Date

This weekend just gone I had the Ultimate Coffee Date at the London Coffee Festival, held at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. Hosted by The London Coffee Guide the festival was 4 days full of demonstrations, music, vendors and of course coffee!

We opted for a Sunday afternoon session and when we got there it seems like we weren’t alone, as the line was around the block. 20 mins later we arrived inside to a steaming hot exhibition hall thriving with people. It was a little overwhelming to say the least. There wasn’t really any signs to tell you where to go so we just wandered the first hall trying to find a place to grab a coffee – which you wouldn’t think would be too hard at a coffee festival.

This wasn’t my first time to Brickwood – in fact I go for brunch there every few weeks but this time was the first time that it was warm enough for me to sit outside in the courtyard while we had some coffee and brunch.

Cafe Viva

Coffee Date: Cafe Viva

Address: 44 Choumert Road, Peckham, SE15 4SE

Cost: £10 for 2x coffees and food

My most recent coffee date was at Cafe Viva in Peckham. Recommended by the London Coffee Guide 2013, Peckham isn’t my usual haunt but the combination of my coffee date living nearby and a sunny London day we decided to stroll down to the cafe.

The cafe serves a good variety of food and I was tempted into having some banana bread to accompany my soy flat white. I wasn’t disappointed – the toasted banana bread, topped with greek yogurt and drizzled in honey was the perfect Sunday morning snack. My friends ordered toasted baps and they too were really happy with what they ate.
