Top 10 Drinking Establishments In London

There are so many great places to drink in London, you’d have to struggle to stay thirsty. There are so many that I’ve enjoyed during my time here its hard to narrow it down to one list. Any place can be a great place to drink if you have the right people with you and nothing beats your local. If you fancy trying somewhere new I recommend checking these out.

1. Piano bar
I only got to visit this place in my last week in London and I can’t believe I hadn’t been there before! Right across from High Street Kensington station you would be forgiven for walking past the little entrance but once you head upstairs you find a cute little bar with a few tables and of course a piano. The wine list is comprehensive and the food is amazing – get the czech cheese. What makes this place so great is the piano player who sings a broad range of songs and even takes requests. By the end of the night we were all up singing and dancing along. Such a great night out!

Gordon’s Wine Bar

Drinking Establishment: Gordon’s Wine Bar

Location: 47 Villiers Street, London, WC2N 6NE

Cost: £5 for a glass of house red (but you could spend your whole paycheck in here)

Most people in London have been to Gordon’s Wine Bar (or at least it seems that everyone I know has been there) so its quite surprising that its taken me nearly four and a half years to finally go. I’ve got to say – its worth the wait and I can see why everyone loves London’s oldest wine bar.

Music Pub Quiz

Recently I decided to organise a team night out for my workmates and I and since we are a pretty smart bunch I thought a pub quiz would be good fun. While searching for pub quizzes close to my work I stumbled across the Sounds Familiar Music Quiz at Jerusalem, a pub quiz which is all about the music. We booked a table for 10 people for about £6 a head and got there nice and early for a meal before hand.

The Little Bar

Drinking Establishment: The Little Bar

Address: 145 Mitcham Rd, London, UK SW17 9PE

Cost: £13 for a cravat of wine – £20-40 for a bottle

The Little Bar is one of those places where the name says it all. It literally is a teeny tiny bar on the corner of Mitcham Road in Tooting. With about 12 seats there isn’t much room for groups but if you are there to catch up with 1-2 people its the perfect place. The owner is really friendly and can recommend the perfect wine for what you are after and there are a variety of cocktails if the wine list doesn’t take your fancy.

Luckily for those of us who don’t do well drinking on an empty stomach there are a few nibblies which you can buy to line your stomach. I recommend the gruyere cheese with quince paste as a great companion to a glass of wine!

The 10 Cases

Drinking Establishment: The 10 Cases

Address: 16 Endell Street, Covent Garden WC2H 9BD

Budget: £40 – three glasses of wine and a variety of small plates.

Last night on a work girls night out I was introduced to a lovely wine bar and restaurant called The 10 Cases, in Covent Garden. The bar gets its name from their philosophy of having a variety of wines at all times, so they only order 10 cases of each wine.

Evans and Peel: Detective Agency

Drinking Establishment: Evans and Peel: Detective Agency

Address: 310c Earls Court Road W.8, London SW5 9BA

Cost: £20-30 depending on how much you drink (cuz they ain’t cheap)

Evans and Peel is one of the coolest drinking experiences I’ve ever had in London. This quirky establishment in a side street near Earls Court is themed like a detective agency. You have to make an appointment to visit the detective and even think up a case you want solved. When you arrive and buzz in you meet with an amazing actor posed as a private detective who grills you about the case, asks for evidence and lets you know what he thinks might have happened.
